Harding Black was born and reared in Texas. In 1933, he studied with Rudolf Staffel and later set up a studio to teach and make pots at the Witte Museum, San Antonio. Some of the Witte Museum made pots can be found today with a circular stamp. In the late 1930's, he worked for the NYA/WPA. Harding was best known for his outstanding glaze design, where his pots were primarily functional in content and made of earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. He was a designer for the Alamo pottery. Harding exhibited at the Witte Museum, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Smithsonian, Southwest Craft Center, Wichita Art Association and etc. Exhibited at the Nationals from 1947-1954 and 1958.
