Margaret Whittemore (1897-1983)
Margaret Whittemore was born in Topeka, Kansas. She was a writer, graphic artist, illustrator, and block printer.Whittemore studied at Washburn College (A.B.) in Topeka, AIC, and Taos (NM) Art Colony. Margaret Whitemore was a member of the National Legion American Pen Women, National Society New England Women, and the Audubon Society. She worked at University of Kansas, Lawrence, Clay Center Library and the Wichita Public Library, and Kansas State Historical Society, Public Library, both in Topeka, Kansas. Margaret Whittemore was known as an Author/illustrator: Historic Kansas,1954; Adventures in Thrift,1946; woodcuts, Trees, pub. Bruce Humphries; Bird Notes, by H.L. Rhodes, 1932. Daughter of Frances Davis Whittemore, first director of the Mulvane Art Museum and long time chair of the art dept. at Washburn Univ.
